Hi! I'm Dr. Ben, a physical therapist, husband, father, and general nerd. After finishing my undergraduate degree at Indiana University, I worked at a law firm and prepared to apply to law school until I developed a debilitating knee injury. After resting, trying a few stretches, and three doctor's appointments, I had an MRI, which showed I had severely torn my meniscus in one knee. I had surgery and, after the recovery period, severely tore the meniscus in my other knee. The process repeated itself with another surgery that left me still in pain.
I kept getting the same answers from surgeons and the large hospital system near me, which included taking some pills and having more surgery. I decided I wasn't having surgery, but I was going to heal. Through my research, I found some controversial physical therapists that changed my perspective on the body's ability to heal, and that ultimately changed my life. I stopped my plans for law school and went to Boston to study at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Sports Medicine. Life moved us to San Francisco, where I was a primary care physical therapist at Stanford Healthcare. My wife and I then celebrated the birth of our first son, which took us back to the Midwest, where I worked and studied at the Cleveland Clinic before starting Burning River PT.
If we meet, you'll notice I approach things differently. I look at the whole body, not just the problem area. My main focus is getting you out of pain as quickly as possible and preventing injury in the future.
Through physical therapy, we use an evidence backed, individualized approach to examine and address your movement and pain.
Through movement we use your body's contractions a to improve function. This might look like strengthening, stretching, or even breathing...
Through manual therapy we work to improve your movement and pain. We use a combination of massage and manipulative techniques
I visited Dr. Ben for my first ever physical therapy appointment. He was incredibly warm and welcoming and made sure to address all the concerns I had. I was experiencing some neck and shoulder pain and Dr. Ben was able to relieve the pain in one visit. He also provided me with some exercises to avoid the situation in the future. I highly recommend a visit if you are having any physical pain!

He takes time working with you to understand/diagnose your issue, doesn't rush you, and takes time to explain things so you understand them.
